Update on Alt Right and the Web

The days of the mimeograph are long over.  Founding a Hate Web is difficult.

Why do you care so much? These people want nothing to do with you, they just want to be left alone. They want to do their thing without interference, they don’t want to blow up mosques or kill those they don’t want to associate with. They don’t even want to throw urine or feces in their faces, unlike some on the SJW side who consider it essential to do so. I really don’t understand people like you – it’s not enough to have your own universalist views, you must force them on everyone whether or not they want them. I still consider myself a classical liberal which now days is considered regressively conservative – which is sad.

But actions of people like you have made me actually go read white nationalist literature, Nazi literature and history, and introduced me to people I would have never met otherwise. This is because of the hysterical pearl clutching on the part of people like you. And you know what I have found? They’re mostly pretty good people. They have jobs, they have families, some are exceptionally well educated, and they pay their taxes.

There are exceptions, of course, there always are, but even those people who I don’t happen to care for aren’t out agitating for the destruction of all races other than their own, even the people on the white nationalist side that I find to be hysterical pearl clutchers. They JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE. They JUST WANT THE RIGHT TO FREE ASSOCIATION. I don’t have a problem with that, even though some don’t want to associate with me. That’s their right. And their loss.

To quote Thomas Jefferson “But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. … Reason and free enquiry are the only effectual agents against error.” He was speaking of government but it applies equally to human relations. It doesn’t hurt you in the slightest if someone doesn’t want to associate with you. Really. It might hurt your feelings, but it does you no physical harm. And the more you insist that they’re wrong and they MUST be eliminated by any means necessary the more people you’re going to drive to actually look at what they’re saying and why.

I do not agree at any level. They are already doing the things you say they are not. However, as you have declared your position, nothing I say will change your position and you and I stand opposed. It is always good to know where one stands. I am afraid I cannot agree with your quoting Jefferson either. May we win. I do not know that we or the country will, but I hope we do.

You and I are unlikely to ever agree and are on opposite sides of this fight. Why do you care what I think?

You will not win. The tide is already turning. We are a tribal species. Tribe will always win out. Every other group in the world has in group preferences and they’re celebrated for having them. Except white people. And this is fact. Why do you think that is? I know what you think, that all those people, me included, are Nazi racists. But whatever. Keep thinking that. The more you use those words, the less they mean.

“If the alt-right’s ideology harks back to 1940s Germany, its web design might transport you to 1990s GeoCities.”

    Whoa. That’s *cold*. 😉
